As part of this year’s Book Week activities students at Prince of Peace Lutheran School’s Kindergarten were given an extra treat: a visit by the Queensland Ballet. But this was no ordinary visit; it was also a workshop for the Kindy students.
Miss Claire began the session by telling the children the story of ‘Joey counts to ten’ after which the children, most of whom were attired in various themed costumes from their favourite books, acted out the story. While doing this they were also taught how to Plié, Demi pointe while maintaining various poses and feet positions. This proved to be a great example of how to use a Children’s book to teach physical and artistic skills.
Kindy Director Lyn Jackson said the visit had been a great success. ‘Miss Claire delivered an excellent Kindy age session teaching children the basic ballet movements in a fun interactive way. Hats off to the Queensland Ballet for this innovative program.’
All in all it has certainly been a Book Week to remember for these Kindy kids.
