Eva Porter is a a truely inspiring young woman. This local young lady from Albany Creek got herself off unemployment benefits and started her own viable landscape design business, Porter Designs. Now she has gone from Centrelink to presenting as guest speaker at this weekend’s Redcliffe Festival!
Read more about her journey below in her own words:-
I’m a local young person who was considered a long term unemployed person. Since I was 21, through commitment and passion I have built a successful business that got me off the dole. There are many young people who are long term unemployed and I would really like to help them by giving them a sense of hope through my story.
The Redcliffe Festival is coming up that the Moreton Bay regional council is holding. I will be one of the guest speakers at the ‘What’s Cooking in the Garden’ festival! I see this as a fantastic opportunity to encourage people to go to the event as well as using my story to give hope to other young people.
Over the past two years, I have gotten off the dole, designed the gardens of high profile clients in Brisbane, designed parklands in regional QLD towns to help regional growth, undertook further study and have become a Registered Landscape Architect, had a garden published in the Brisbane News Magazine, on the committee ‘Women In Business’ that is part of the Hills & District Chamber of Commerce so that I can encourage and help other women in business, and now I’m so excited to give back to the Moreton Bay regional community by speaking at their event!
When you are a young person being rejected from jobs left, right and centre can make you feel as though nobody wants to give you a chance. This feeling makes your future seem unsuccessful. I would absolutely love to give young people hope, can you help me?
Eva will be taking to the IKEA Lifestyle & DIY Stage at the Recliffe Festival this Saturday (3rd September) from 12.40pm. So if you are planning on designing your garden but just don’t know where to start or if you are a lover of plants and are keen to find out a few design tricks head over to the festival this weekend.
